Living Streets Walk to School Challenge
We are excited to share that our school has signed up to take part in the Living Streets Walk to School Challenge! This is a fun, nationwide initiative that encourages children and families to walk (or wheel, cycle, or scoot) to school more often.
What is the Walk to School Challenge?
The challenge is run by the charity Living Streets and aims to help children build healthy habits, reduce traffic around schools, and support a cleaner environment. Each day that your child travels to school actively—whether by walking, scooting, or cycling—they can log their journey and earn rewards along the way.
What does this mean for parents?
We know mornings can be busy, so this challenge is designed to be flexible and achievable for everyone. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Walk all or part of the journey: If you live far from school, you might consider parking a little further away and walking the last 5–10 minutes.
- Encourage active travel: Scooting and cycling count too!
- Make it routine: Even a few active journeys each week can make a big difference.
- Stay safe: Please continue to use safe crossing points and remind children about road safety.
Why take part?
There are lots of benefits for both children and families:
- Children arrive at school more alert and ready to learn
- It helps build daily exercise into your child’s routine
- Reduces congestion and improves air quality around the school
- It’s a great opportunity to spend a little extra time together
Rewards and Motivation
Children will be able to track their progress and earn badges or rewards for their efforts. It’s all about participation and building positive habits, not competition.
We hope as many families as possible will take part and support this exciting initiative. Every step counts, and together we can make a big difference to our children’s health and our local environment.
Thank you for your support!
