Reception have had a busy second week back in school and trying to enjoy our outside learning area as much as we can, now that the weather is getting better – the start of things to come!
We are enjoying the book Jasper’s Beanstalk, this is teaching us about the growth cycle and how we plant and look after the seeds that we have planted. Some of us have been planting beans and some have planted cress, which is already sprouting! A trip to our school allotment was in order, where we looked at garlic growing, along with all the herbs, onions and the fruit trees and where we will be growing strawberries, raspberries and much more – exciting times!
We have had a lot of fun in the painting area, resulting in some beautiful artwork that we have put on display for everyone to see.
We have been developing our gross motor skills by practicing our balancing, climbing and jumping. Everyone has enjoyed imaginative play with the house and the dolls and prams, we have even had some cooking!
The nature area and mud kitchen have been well explored and we have found some “worms” and buried treasure!
We also have a construction area and the quiet area for reading stories, but most popular this week has been the phonics tray, finding letters in the flour!
We are also enjoying looking at the story of Jack and the beanstalk. The giant was found at the top of our beanstalk and left us a message to say that he had been up there for 3 days and he needed our help to get him down, so we have been thinking of ways to get him down, will he need a vehicle to get down or a potion or something else?
